Ductless mini-splits are the right answer when adding traditional ductwork would be expensive or impossible - basements, ADUs, garage apartments, attic conversions, sunrooms, additions, and older Murray homes with one cold room and one hot room. Murray HVAC Pros installs and services Mitsubishi, Daikin, LG, and Fujitsu - the four brands that make up roughly 90% of Wasatch Front ductless installs.

What Your Ductless Call Probably Looks Like
The most frequent ductless calls we get from Murray and the surrounding cities, with the typical Murray-area price range.
When Ductless Is the Right Call
Five Murray scenarios where ductless beats every other option: (1) Adding HVAC to a finished basement that wasn't ducted to in the original build. (2) Backyard ADUs and mother-in-law suites - Murray and Holladay both allow them and they need climate control. (3) Garage workshops and converted attics with no ductwork access. (4) Older Murray homes where the original central AC ducting can't deliver enough cool air to second-floor bedrooms in July. (5) Sunrooms and additions that the existing HVAC system was never sized for.
The advantage: no new ductwork, individual zone control (each head has its own thermostat), high efficiency (16–28 SEER2 typical, vs. 14–18 for central AC), and quiet operation. The compromise: visible wall-mounted indoor units (though Daikin and Mitsubishi both make ceiling-recessed cassettes if visibility is an issue), and higher per-ton equipment cost than central air.
Brands We Install and Service
Mitsubishi: industry-leading reliability, longest warranties (12-year compressor on most lines), and the best hyper-heat cold-climate performance in Murray winters. Our default recommendation for primary-heat-source ductless installs in Cottonwood Heights and bench-area homes where the system needs to perform below 0°F.
Daikin: comparable to Mitsubishi on most installs, slightly better pricing, strong ceiling-cassette and ducted-mini-split options. Good fit for multi-zone installs where aesthetics matter.
LG: strong value brand, solid 10-year warranties, simpler diagnostics. Good fit for ADUs and rental properties where lower upfront cost matters and the system isn't doing primary winter heating.
Fujitsu: best ductless mid-range option, particularly strong for hidden ducted mini-splits where you want central-air aesthetics with ductless efficiency.
We carry parts and diagnostic tools for all four brands. Most local HVAC companies don't - if you've been told “we don't really work on those” about your mini-split, call us.
Common Mini-Split Service Calls
The most common ductless service call in Murray is a dirty blower wheel - the small squirrel-cage fan inside the indoor head that pushes air across the coil. Over 3–5 years, dust and Wasatch Front pollen build up on the blower wheel blades, restricting airflow and dropping cooling capacity. Cleaning runs $200–$350 per head and restores the system to factory performance.
Second most common: refrigerant leak at the line set flares - the connection points where the refrigerant tubing meets the indoor and outdoor units. Mini-split flares are notoriously prone to micro-leaks if the original install wasn't torqued correctly. Repair runs $300–$500 (re-flare and tighten the connections) plus a refrigerant recharge.
Third: control board failures, usually $400–$800 depending on the brand. Mini-split control boards are brand-specific and not interchangeable, which is why a tech without the right diagnostic tools can't always finish the call in one visit.

What Ductless Typically Costs in Utah
The ranges below are typical Utah and Salt Lake Valley prices - industry averages, not a quote. What you actually pay depends on your system's age, brand, parts, and what the contractor finds on-site. Always get the price in writing before any work starts.
Most Utah contractors roll the diagnostic fee into the repair invoice once you approve the work - ask before you book.
Four Steps, No Run-Around
Calling an HVAC contractor should be the easy part of having a broken furnace. Here's exactly what happens when you call Murray HVAC Pros.
Call or Request Online
Real Murray dispatcher picks up - no answering service, no menu trees. We log your issue and your address.
We Roll a Truck
Most Murray, Holladay, and Millcreek calls see a truck on the driveway inside 30 minutes during business hours.
Diagnose & Quote
Tech walks you through what's wrong, what the fix costs, and what the cost is to replace if it's close. Written estimate before any work starts.
Fix It Right
Most repairs done same-day with parts on the truck. Warranty on labor, manufacturer warranty on parts, follow-up call to make sure it's right.
What You Get When You Call Us
Six commitments we make to every Murray homeowner who picks up the phone.
Local Murray Crew, Not a Franchise
Our shop is on 900 East at 5400 South. Our techs live in Murray, Holladay, Millcreek, and Cottonwood Heights. You get the same crew every visit - not whoever the dispatch app pulled from three counties over.
Up-Front Pricing, In Writing
You see the number before we lift a wrench. No 'what we found' surprises after we've pulled the unit apart. If the diagnosis changes the price, we stop and call you first.
Altitude-Smart Installs
Murray is at 4,300 feet. Cottonwood Heights is closer to 4,800. Most furnaces ship from the factory tuned for sea-level air - at altitude, that means burning too hot and cracking heat exchangers years early. We derate every install with a combustion analyzer.
Real After-Hours Pickup
Call us at 2 AM in January when the furnace dies. A real Murray HVAC Pros tech picks up the phone - not an answering service that takes your name and hopes someone calls back.
One Crew, Heat & Cool, Every Season
We're a full HVAC contractor - not a furnace-only shop you have to replace in April. Same crew works your AC in July and your furnace in January, with parts on the truck for both.
Honest Repair-vs-Replace
Multiply the system's age by the repair quote. Over $5,000? We'll bring you a replacement quote too - and explain when the repair is actually the smarter call. No pressure either way.

Real Reviews from Real Homes
“Called at 9pm on a Saturday in January - furnace had died and the house was at 52. They actually picked up. Tech rolled up at 10:15, diagnosed a bad inducer motor, had the part on the truck. Heat was back on by midnight. Charged me the price they quoted on the phone.”
“Got three quotes for a new AC. The other two tried to sell me a 5-ton system on a 1,400 sq ft rambler - Murray HVAC Pros came out, did an actual load calc, said a 2.5-ton would be plenty and saved me almost $3,000. Install was clean, on time, and they walked me through the new thermostat before they left.”
“Used them for a furnace tune-up. The tech showed me a video of the cracked heat exchanger inside my 18-year-old unit. No high-pressure pitch - just facts and a written quote for replacement that wasn't due for two weeks. We got the install done and the new furnace is half as loud as the old one.”
